Hello Mike and all of y'all. Looks like you're progressing very well. Keep it up!
Enjoyed my first time very much. Very interesting and great exercises for the heart and brain. This is beautiful and a gift from God. Want to connectand sing with harmony singers.
Ich finde den Aufbau der Seite sehr gut. Macht weiter so.
I am brand new to Tangipahoa Parish in Pontchatoula and need to plug in with singers of this type music and bluegrass and old time country, and Southern Gospel shaped note type Singing Conventions.
Love harmony singing. Used to be exposed a lot around Gov. Jimmie Davis.

Hello everyone! It's post hurricane Gustav and I hope everybody made it through the weather OK. My prayers go out to those who suffered from the storm. See you at the next singing........Kent
Mike, I used the link Don Wiley posted on our new website for our (also new!) Old Fields Singers group up here in east TN. Since Don claimed your site as an inspiration for his I just had to check it
out. These are really fine webpages to draw newcomers in and support your growing membership. How exciting it is to become involved in this old tradition. Reading your "Potluck Pages" alone should
bring you heaps more of enthusiastic (and hungry) participants! Congratulations. This is a great site!
With all best wishes from
Ellie Hjemmet in the beautiful mountains of upper East Tennessee

It's a good sign when folks are asking for MORE singings. I am experimenting with additional venues. For example, on the Friday before our regular third Sunday, we will meet at a coffee house which
offers acoustic musicians opportunity to perform. They have a separate area for this that is still connected to the main area.
This past Sunday, we sang outdoors at an historical observation. While that was a little daunting for a new group, we did fine. I reminded the group that the singing is in the square for a reason. We
are singing to each other, and by extension to God. If people want to watch that is fine. Observers did not preclude me from slowing down and working the song until the class got it.
Hi Susan-
Thanks for your comments..it validates our strategy of trying to focus the first hour on the very simple basics of shape note singing. Your feedback is very valuable for all of us to keep in mind as
our group grows in experience, because it won't belong before there are a lot of singers who know what they are doing and the challenge then, will be getting everybody to slow down for the first hour
to get first-timers and beginners up to speed!
Thanks for your patience and commitment - fortunately I am still so new at this too, that I am constantly thinking and looking for ways to make it easier and simpler for beginners, so look for even
clearer and easier instructions at the next singing school. And don't forget something; as those of us who are learning begin to figure things out, we should make a point of helping out the ones who
are coming along "behind" us whenever we can.
Thanks again for your input -
Greetings !
2 things:
First, I very much enjoyed my first singing. However, I felt confusion about the actual steps of this, even though I understand the overall concept. I would have liked to seen more instruction at the
start of the day. I heard other people saying the same thing, but who may never voice that. Especially for those of us who cannot read music - we were a little lost in following the music books, as
some of the verses jumped around from top to bottom, and from end to beginning. Having knowledge of how all that works would have been useful.
I suppose it's just a "learn as you go" kind of thing. I would be interested in a mid-month singing. This would give me more practice, and more opportunity to learn. Count me in, and keep me
posted!
THANKS !!
I had a great time at the July 26th event. Keep me posted on the next singing! Thanks for organizing these events.
looking forward to learning more
If anyone would like to share a ride from Baton Rouge, I'd be happy to drive. Email me at DONNALBING@AOL.COM or give our home a call at 225-246-2167.
I won't be in town for the July singing, but I would love to make it to one of your events! please keep me posted.
I was surprised to find this. There will be a singing Sept. 13, 2008 10A-3P at New Providence Primitive Baptist Church in Riggold, LA. We use both the Cooper & Denson books. Would love to see you there.
I love that you guys are doing this, and I can't wait for my opportunity to attend.
We are very interested in attending your next meeting (July 26th). Keep us posted.
Please keep me posted. Would eventually love to attend a singing.
Thanks Richard Hamilton
I plan to attend.
Hi,
I read about S.N. singing in the local newspaper. I have been wanting to learn to sing, and even signed up for St. Timothh's X-mas show. But since I can't read music, I was quickly culled. I am so
excited about observing and participating in the next "singing", especially since it's for everyone who can utter a sound!
Thought I had a comment here already. Hmmmm
Anyhow, you inspired me to make my own.
Congratulations on your progress so far.
Keep me posted on singing events!
It's great to have singers so close. I look forward to singing with the group many times, both on the Morthshore and in other places.
Thanks Mike and Lorraine for a great singing!
Blessings, Wanda
Just got back from the singing - it was GREAT! I have wanted to do this for years. Thanks so much for organizing it. I look forward to many more.
Wish I could join in the festival
