Shape Note/Sacred Harp Singing
Baton Rouge
St. Alban’s Chapel
Sunday May 16, 2010
2:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
1
St. Alban’s Chapel is on the LSU campus at the corner of Highland and Dalrymple.
We will sing from The B. F. White Sacred Harp, Revised Cooper Edition. Copies will be available for loan or purchase.
Shape Note singing (also known as Sacred Harp) is early American four-part a cappella singing. Singers sit in a “hollow square” and sing the ‘shapes’ followed by the words. No experience necessary - and all are welcome. We will begin with a 15 minute “singing school” for newcomers, with group singing beginning at 2:15.
