A note from your host:

Please accept my sincere apologies for the taking so long to find a venue for our OCTOBER 2009 SINGING. I'm disappoiinted that many of the available venues are now asking for either large sums of money or are "requiring" certificates of insurance, howver I am thrilled that in the true spirit of appreciation for music, the town of Abita Springs has offered their historic Town Hall to us (for just the cleaning fee).  The acoustics in this building, as well as it's historic roots,  promise to make this a truly memorable singing to attend. It is my pleasure to announce that once again John Merritt will be returning to teach and lead, an dthere promises to be quite a number of visiting singers "from away" at this Singing.

In the long tradition of Shape Note Singing, we will again host a PotLuck Lunch and your contribution will be greatly appreciated - go to the Oct 2009 POTLUCK PAGE to see what is needed and add your dish.

Thank you for your voice and your support; take a break, bring a friend and come join us!

Sing On!

An Old Sound in a New Format

We recently heard a wonderful group called Anonymous 4 on PBS doing a very polished version of a Sacred Harp arrangment of "Wonderous Love".

To hear a sample, go to Anonymous 4 , scroll down to the song list and click "Wonderous Love"

Record Attendance at Third Old Tyme Singing School!

The Third Time was yet another Charm!
From 9:30am to 2:00pm, Northshore Shape Note held it's third "Old Tyme Singing School" at Mandeville City Hall, Saturday, July 26th.  We were delighted to have 25 brand new visitors who joined their voices with 35 returning singers. John Merritt from Gautier, Miss - once again, taught and led the class with abundant humor and patience as we made our way through the notes and shapes. With a total of 60 people in attendance for this singing, there were over a half dozen children and young people who also participated.  In addition to Northshore and New Orleans attendees, experienced Sacred Harp Singers came from as far as Baton Rouge and Jackson, MS.

I HAVE NEVER SEEN A POTLUCK TABLE PICKED CLEAN...
....but the combination of hearty appetites brought on by 2 1/2 hours of rousing singing and an array of incredible home cooked food, made moderation a concept unfamiliar to the day!  Thanks to all who brought dishes; I'm still working off the calories - and happy to do it.

Pretty Please?

-How about taking a moment and share your thoughts, insights and impressions of your Sacred Harp experience in the guestbook...it just might encourage a new person to come visit and sing.
